(December 9, 2000) Striking new lingerie ads featuring cheeky blonde supermodel Claudia Schiffer are driving men in Frankfurt, Germany to the wrong side of the law. According to ad agency Deutsche Staedte-Medien, nearly half of the 600 posters installed in display cases around the city have been stolen.

The titillating poster that's proven so tempting for many men is part of an advertising campaign by Swedish retailer Hennes&Mauritz. It shows sexy Claudia dressed provocatively in only bra and panties. The photo is one of a series shot by Vogue photographer Max Vadukul, who was reportedly inspired by the erotic photography of Helmut Newton. In all, over 6000 copies of the ad have been posted across Germany.

Hennes&Mauritz has tried to discourage horny young men from snagging the ads by promising to give them away at the end of the campaign. That news prompted fans to get in line last Thursday morning outside the company's Frankfurt office.

This year's Claudia Schiffer posters have also been cited as a traffic hazard. Last week, rescue crews called to the scene of an accident in Berlin discovered a smashed up BMW beneath a large billboard of Claudia wearing just underwear and a pair of high heels. Police say the driver crashed during a police chase, but at least one newspaper in the German capital published a photo of the scene with the caption "Is it Claudia's fault?".

Those wondering about the prospects of seeing the supermodel completely naked in other than grainy paparazzi photos shouldn't hold their breath. In an interview late last month, Claudia ruled out nudity while talking about her movie debut in the film Black and White. "It wouldn't be good for me to do nude stuff yet," she said. "If I took my clothes off in movies I'd be exploited, and there are some things I want to keep private. Posing naked is not my thing. Maybe later I'll be comfortable if I'm perceived as being a good actress."
