Biography
Growing up in Los Angeles, Jolie was no stranger to the film industry,
being the daughter of Academy Award-winning actor Jon Voight. She
later trained and performed at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute,
where she was seen in several stage productions. She worked as a
professional model in London, New York and Los Angeles, and has
also appeared in music videos for such artists as Loaf, Meat, Lenny
Kravitz, Antonello Venditti and The Lemonheads. In addition, she
has acted in five student films for the USC School of Cinema, all
directed by her brother, 'James Haven'.
Angelina Jolie had her break-through in 1999 with The Bone Collector
starring Denzel Washington, and in Girl, Interrupted with Winona
Ryder which won her the Golden Globe, the SAG Award and
the Academy Award for
best leading actress in a supporting role.
In the year 2000, Angelina married Billy Bob Thornton after her
divorce from Jonny Lee Miller, and while she had Jonny Lee Miller's
name painted in blood on the back of her shirt at their marriage,
she and Billy Bob wore a vial of each other's blood around their
necks at their marriage.
Filming for Lara Croft: Tombraider took place in Cambodia, and
Angelina witnessed the beauty, culture but also the poverty of
this country.
After that she began
visiting refugee camps around the world and came to be formally
appointed as a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations High
Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). Some of her experiences were
written and published in her popular book "Angelina Jolies Notes From My Travels " whose
profits go to UNHCR.
Jolie has stated that she now plans to spend most of her time
in humanitarian efforts, to be financed by her actress salary.
She devotes one third of her income to savings, one third to living
expenses and one third to charity. In 2002, Angelina adopted a
Cambodian refugee boy named "Maddox" and, in 2005, she adopted
an Ethiopian refugee girl named "Zahara".
In 2004, Angelina Jolie filmed Mr. & Mrs. Smith with Brad
Pitt, and rumors of an affair were denied. Angelina stated she
couldn't have an affair with a married man. In 2005, Brad Pitt
separated from Jennifer Aniston,
and Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are now a couple.
In 2006, Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt was born, the daughter of "Brangelina"
(Brad and Angelina).
